2019 Nominations for Admission to the U.S. Service Academies.

Congressman Dan Lipinski has nominated 16 young men and women from the Third Congressional District for Admission to the U.S. Service Academies.

"One of the duties of this office that I cherish the most is the honor to nominate young men and women for our country's prestigious service academies," Rep. Lipinski told the nominees. "Every year, applications come into my office from the district's best and brightest students who have demonstrated the ability to lead and have the heart and courage to serve our nation. Thank you for your willingness to serve others. With you as our future leaders, I know our nation will be in good hands."

Nominated members are: 

West Point - Francisco Carranza of Chicago Military Academy, Liam Ohle of St. Rita of Cascia HS and William Shanahan of Marist HS.
Air Force Academy - Kurt Hillebrand of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Haley Hoffmeister of Carl Sandburg HS, Andrzelika Galicia of Amos Alonzo Stagg HS and Guadalupe Solis of Air Force Academy HS.
Naval Academy - Jack Guinn of Amos Alonzo Stagg HS, Amanda Kural of Lyons Township HS, Daniel Lynch of Fenwick HS, Catherine Meehan of Benet Academy, Yei Mei of Westinghouse College Prep, Jacob Oblazny of Naperville North HS, Destiny Ortega of Phoenix Military Academy, Gregory Smith of Lyons Township HS and Stanley Suter of Nazareth.

2017 Voice of Democracy & Patriots Pen Scholarship Competitions

Members of the Johnson-Phelps VFW Post & Ladies Auxiliary- #5220-Oak Lawn, IL. are proud to announce the winners of their Patriots Pen Scholarship Competition.

Corrin Smith, a 7th grade student at Oak Lawn Hometown Middle School, in Oak Lawn, IL, was awarded 1st Place in the VFW 3rd District & Auxiliary's Patriot's Pen Essay competition "The America I Believe In". Corrin was sponsored by Johnson-Phelps VFW & Auxiliary Post 5220.

Johnson-Phelps VFW Post #5520 Buy a Brick Program

Johnson-Phelps VFW Post #5220 is taking orders for memorial bricks to be placed across the street from the VFW.  As you can see by the illustration below, we have plans to fill many sections on the walkway as well as the area around the Flagpole.  This project is currently in phase II and the flag pole area has been filled with bricks so all bricks with forthwith be added to the walkway itself.  

You'll be able to make choices on what text you want to be on the brick as well as an option to add a logo symbol that represents your loved one's organization affiliation.  The walkway honors past and present Veterans, Police Officers and Fireman of Oak Lawn.

As bricks are purchased for the walkway, they will be filled into the rectangular areas on an every other brick basis so your loved one's brick will be more easily findable and to keep the design more pleasing to the visitors of the area.

More photos will be added to this area as it's finished and as weather permits as well (as we all know what Illinois winters can be like!).
