Blind Vets Recognition
Annual Blind Vets Recognition Day
Each year the Post and Auxiliary host a party for the Veterans of the Blind Unit at Hines VA Hospital. The vets arrived on a Hines coach bus and, as in past years, they received a motorcycle escort starting from Hines all the way to the Post. Members from the motorcycle club Blue Reckoning, Demigods and other clubs came out to participate in the ride and show their support for the vets. Many vintage and military car groups also escorted the bus.
The Veterans of the Blind Unit were then entertained by DJ Mike who is a member of Johnson Phelps Post 5220, and they enjoyed the musical talents of the Singing Men of Note acappella male singing group who sang the National Anthem.
They enjoyed a 5-course hot lunch, pizza from Clancy’s Pizza, fresh fruits, and homemade desserts baked by the Auxiliary.
